Alpha (アルファ, Arufa) is the Quirk of Coal Mackenzie that allows him to transform into a large, humanoid wolf and infect others with a "werewolf curse".
Description[]
Alpha is a Transformation-type Quirk that allows its user to turn into a large and very powerful wolfman with plum fur, disproportionally large arms, and fuzzy black tufts on the elbows, head, around the neck, and down the center of the torso. The eyes may also occasionally glow orange. While in this form, Mackenzie's strength, speed, durability, and senses -- especially the sense of smell -- are increased dramatically, but some of his higher brain functions are dampened, such as speech and focus. His attention is also more easily captured and broken, with scents, jeers, and flashes of light often grabbing his attention in wolf form.
While Mackenzie is transformed (the process takes about 5 seconds), his fangs begin to build up a toxin that is released whenever he bites someone. It takes about a minute for enough of the toxin to have built up to actually infect someone. An infected person will show no symptoms, the only way to know is to see the bite mark, and even then they can't know for sure whether or not they were injected with enough of the poison to be infected. About 5 minutes after being infected, whenever a victim hears the user's howl, they too will transform into a humanoid wolf, though they won't be as large, fast, or strong as Mackenzie. They will remain in this form for 1 hour, and during this time, the user can give them simple commands through barks, growls, and howls, such as "chase", "search", "protect me", etc.. Mackenzie calls this a "werewolf curse".
Usage & Limitations[]
Due to the fact that Alpha falls within the category of Transformation-type Quirks that increase the user's size and strength, it has all of the applications that others of that type have. However, Alpha also grants Mackenzie great speed by running quadrupedal, reaching speeds of up to 50 mph (80 km/h). This allows the user to easily chase down anyone who does not have a vehicle or a Quirk that greatly increases speed. Furthermore, the user's heightened eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell also make it incredibly easy for him to search for or chase down anyone within a large radius, with his sense of smell reaching up to 2 miles (3 km) away.
