"The opposite of love is not hate. Hate is just love gone bad. The actual opposite of love is apathy. When you don't give a damn as to what happens to the other person."

Mutsumi Nair, also known as the Mysterious Snake Hero: Naga, is a pro hero, an AR Quirk User, and a recurring character in Blue Ghost Tales.

Appearance[]

Mutsumi has short cyan hair, and her own eyes sometimes shine the same color. She has a thick brown and black striped tail which matches the stripes of her hooded jacket.

Her main feature is her unique brown and black striped hooded jacket, which covers her upper body all the way to the top of her head. The top of the hood has two red circles that resemble large eyes. The front of the hood has a yellow middle portion to symbolize a snake's belly, with side pockets in the middle-bottom part. She wears a pink bow that has a blue gradient at the end to resemble the tongue. She wears a very traditional and difficult-to-wear geta kind known as a "Tengu geta", which has only a single, thin and tall wooden base compared to the usual geta.

When in hybrid form, Mutsumi's lower body resembles a great snake, whilst she resembles a human from the waist-up. Her snake-like traits are not limited to her tail; she has slitted pupils and has a noted tendency to hiss when speaking. Her normally covered ears have a large, frill-like appearance; from a distance, Mutsumi's ears resemble an Elf's.

Personality[]

Mutsumi is generally shy and does not want to come into contact with other people. Despite this, she has a very loud and potentially dirty mouth. She will use this kind of voice to assert what she wants to say. It is not uncommon for others to consider her speech patterns rude.

Abilities[]

Overall abilities: Mutsumi lacks sweat glands and her body retains moisture better than those of others; she is well-adapted to the desert and, on average, requires notably less water than others would.

Semi-Immortality: She has a surprisingly long lifespan; she can live well over 200 years.

Tail: Her scales are smooth to the touch, but quite solid; for the most part her tail offers amicable defense against environmental hazards. Her tail doubles as a weapon - its sheer mass paired with its heavy musculature means that it can easily batter aside foes.

Venomous Fangs: Mutsumi's fangs are poisonous. Naga venom is paralytic in nature, causing a spreading weakness from the bite site and slowly sapping the subject's strength.

Quirk[]

Naga: Mutsumi can transform into a Naga (female: nagi or nagini), a snake-like spirit in Hinduism and Buddhism able to shift between and combine features of human and snake in various ways. They are nature spirits (some are worshiped as deities) associated with and protectors of waters, rivers, lakes, seas and wells. They bring rain, and thus fertility and prosperity, and are guardians of treasure, but are also able to cause natural disasters such as floods and drought.

Trivia[]

  • Her first name, Mutsumi, comes from 睦 (boku, moku, mutsu.bu, mutsu.mu) meaning "friendly, harmonious, intimate." It can also combine 睦 with 実 (shitsu, jitsu, makoto, makotoni, mi) meaning "reality, truth", 美 (bi, mi, utsuku.shii) meaning "beautiful, beauty", 己 (ki, ko, onore, tsuchinoto, na, mi) meaning "self, serpent, snake" or 巳 (shi, mi) meaning "sign of the snake/serpent (6th sign of the Chinese zodiac)." Her surname, Nair, is the name of a group of Hindu castes concentrated in the Indian state of Kerala. The origin of the word itself is somewhat disputed. Some believe it is derived from nayaka, an honorific meaning "leader of the people", while another theory suggests that is is derived from the Sanskrit नाग (nāgá) "snake, serpent" (a reference to the practice of snake worship).
