Raika Kaminari (上(かみ)鳴(なり) 雷火(らいか), Kaminari Raika^?), neé Hinojima (日(ひ)野(の)島(じま), Hinojima^?), known by her hero name, Homura (ホムラ, Homura^?), is a student in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, where she got in through official recommendations, and is training to become a Pro Hero. She is the middle child of the Hero Duo, Scarlet Thunder, the No. 3 (formerly No. 4) Heroes.

Appearance

Raika is a pale-skinned young woman of above-average stature with a slim yet curvaceous figure for her age. And is considered to be attractive by many people. She has thick wavy hip-length hair that fades from scarlet to fire orange to yellow at the ends with fringe framing her face. She has dark red, large and kind-looking eyes adorned by thick eyelashes. In addition, she wears silver a lightning bolt stud earring with two small hoops beside it.

During her junior high days, Raika wore a black blazer adorned by her school crest, a white button shirt, a plaid red tie, a skirt of matching pattern, black thigh-high socks, and brown shoes. While at home, she wore a plum blossom-patterned blue haori over a cropped white spaghetti strap top and light grey shorts.

During school hours, Raika wears the standard U.A. uniform, consisting of a green striped grey blazer which she leaves unbuttoned, a red tie, a plain white dress shirt which is tucked into a blue-green pleated skirt, black knee-high socks, and brown slip-on shoes.

In her original hero costume, Raika's hair is tied into a half up half down carefree ponytail with a black lightning bolt clip. The actual hero costume consists of a white silk yukata top patterned with a black lightning pattern on the edges. She wears a mid-thigh length skirt adorned by one large white lightning bolt on each side of the skirt tied into a bow at the front, see through thigh-high black tights with lighting bolt clips around the top and patterned with yellow lightning bolts all over, and short black matching heels with a lightning bolt clip strap.

In her updated hero costume, Raika's hair is tied in a similar style than before but in a more elegant fashion with more layers to her hair. The hero costume consists of a white kimono with black lightning bolts along the border and a short thigh-length dark red skirt with a matching colored sash tied into a bow at the front. She wears black thigh-high socks, and mulberry-purple-strapped geta. Additionally, Raika wears a black ring adorned by a lightning bolt, and purple visor glasses.

As a civilian, Raika wears her hair straight rather than wavy and wears a plain black long-sleeve oversize top tucked into a gray plaid skirt, and short platform combat boots with a zipper down the tongue of the shoe. She accessories with a garnet red belt bag with black cloud details slung across her shoulder and chest.

In her formal attire, Raika wears her hair in a elegant low bun secured by a white lily with her fringe framing pieces curled. She wears a strapless white gown of the bodice wrapped diagonally in tule fabric, and a tule at-the-knee skirt with lilac petals dispersing down the skirt from the bodice, paired with matching lilac d'orsay heels.

Personality

Raika is a kind and go-lucky teenage girl who is described by Izuku Midoriya as "nonchalant yet energetic at the same time." She enjoys a lot time around her friends and socializing with new people; trying to make friends whenever she can. Even when around individuals who show minuscule desire for social interaction like Saori Kazama, Raika doesn't deem different and attempts to friend them regardless. Although past her kind and laidback personality, it doesn't exempt her from getting annoyed as seen when she is excluded from conversations, events, or is teased about humiliating things she has done in the past.

Following her adoption by the Kaminari's, Raika was fairly shy and reserved around people other than Asuka, Raijin, and Denki. She avoided social interaction with others as much as she could unless beside Denki. Since of the consequences she used to face at home, Raika wouldn't do anything unless she was ordered to first. Despite this, after living with them for a while, she opened up, and as said by Asuka Kaminari, "Blossomed into a bright poppy."

As described by Izuku Midoriya, Raika holds a rather contradictory demeanor: being very bubbly yet collected at the same time. She shows both excitement when meeting people, but sports a calm and carefree expression. This led to her being given the nickname Yasu (安(やす), Yasu^?) by Neito Monoma, directly translating to peaceful. She has been described as "Hard to read" by Momo Yaoyorozu, who comments could give Raika advantage in battle with her calm attitude. However Raika isn't always this way, as seen during the U.A. Sports Festival when she releases a massive wall of fire against Ibara Shiozaki after being angered by her parents and Endeavor. She can also easily become stressed when in pinch, as evident at the Forest Training Camp and when she is targeted by the Hanaka High School Students during the Provisional Hero License Exam, releasing attacks that are less controlled than normal. Despite this, she is pretty energetic in most of her battles with lost of energy, as seen when she battles against Katsuki Bakugo at the U.A. Sports Festival.

Raika is more-often-than-not slow to get annoyed nor angry. Because of her relaxed nature, she is easily able to put up with people's outwardly prideful behavior and rude nuances. However this doesn't exempt her from making cheeky comments in relation to their bad behavior, as seen to Katsuki Bakugo. Towards the start of the series, she is seen to put up with less as she is quick to break up the arguments between her childhood friend Shoto Todoroki and Yukihana Fuyuri. And makes more sassy comments towards Katsuki Bakugo and others with rude attitudes.

She sometimes finds fun in having small trivial arguments every once in a while by irritating Katsuki Bakugo and Neito Monoma, who she more often gets in debates with. Moreover, Raika jumps at the change to tease her friends on little non-personal matters occasionally to Saori Kazama, Ochaco Uraraka, and Momo Yaoyorozu. However this teasing is usually only one or two short comments, nothing more.

Raika shows a lot of support and care for her classmates; trying her best to cheer them on whenever. When watching in the stands at the U.A. Sports Festival, she is seen cheering loudly with many of her reactions being exaggerated. She provide support to her friends when she senses they may need it by providing advice. Although Raika doesn't believe herself to do much help; her friends often feel better after talking to her.

As far as her valor goes, Raika is very serene, not showing much interest in becoming a hero. Behind it though holds lots of determination and desire to achieve her goal of being one. As a child and of present, looking up to heroes like All Might who she admired for always having a smile off and on the scene. Much of this desire has been credited by Raika from her sister, Adhira, who encouraged her to follow her dreams and not be shackled by her blood. She also dreams this of being a top hero one day out of bitterness to her parents.

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Having had been trained by her parents, Scarlet Thunder, for quite a few years as a child, Raika entered U.A. High School through Official Recommendations, Raika possess a high level of combat skills in wielding her Quirk. These abilities landed her 2nd in Aizawa's Quirk Apprehension Test and 3rd in the U.A. Sports Festival. As such, Raika established herself as one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. She has shown great control over her Quirk, Electric Flames, which grants her dual generation and manipulation of electricity and scarlet flames. Using these, Raika can shock anyone in a close range to her as well as when they touch her, and same with flames, mold it in many constructs that includes waves that cover a large area. Raika uses her electricity to enhance her mobility by focusing it in her legs to run fast and make towering jumps. When using her flames, Raika can increase the temperature and combust anything she touches, or simply burn by jump generating them. She can release burning hot flames in forms of anything she likes, such as barriers and weapons, or simple consuming waves of flames. In all, Raika has displayed great strength.

At the incidents of U.S.J., Raika was easily able to plow through small-time villains at the Conflagration Zone by herself, and alongside Katsuki Bakugo, overpower and immobilize Kurogiri, a highly capable villain. At the U.A. Sports Festival, she was able to defeat Itsuka Kendo, whom although not particularly strong, possesses high intelligence. Using her ki sensing, Raika was able to find a small and short opening, and used it knocking Kendo out of the battlefield with one kick. Following this, Raika swiftly overpowered Ibara Shiozaki with her fire advantage, moving onto the next round. Through a long and thrilling fight with Katsuki Bakugo, was caught off guard, not realizing she stepped out of the battlefield, placing her third in the sports festival. Ensuing the Sports Festival, Raika takes her internship to the Thundering Hero Agency, under her parents. While against the Hero Killer: Stain with Shoto, Izuku, and Tenya, she displays further use of her ki sensing and greater control over her quirk. Following this incident, Raika is noted by Yawara Chatora to be one of the strongest students in Class 1-A.

Physical Abilities

• Enhanced Strength: Raika has proved to be much stronger than she appears; throwing villains much larger than her a considerable distance and packing tough kicks and punches. During the U.A. Sports Festival, Raika was able to land a punch against Katsuki Bakugo, leaving him stumbling backwards.
• Enhanced Agility: Raika has shown to be very agile, dodging my surprise attacks, and releasing attacks before opponents realize Raika is there.
• Enhanced Stamina: Raika has been shown on numerous occasions to endure combat even while injured. While against Stain, she was able to continue on fighting with her full strength and support her allies regardless of her wounds and injuries.
• Enhanced Flexibility: Raika's body is extremely flexible and limber, being capable of outpacing the Hero Killer: Stain, a very swift villain. At the Forest Training Camp, Raika shows this more improved, used it in conjunction with gymnastics.

Mental Abilities

• Clever Intellect: Raika is displayed to be a vastly intelligent and knowledgeable young woman. Even while against opponents who outmatch her, she can swiftly create accurate strategies to give her the upper hand allowing her to win the fight with her ki-sensing. After encountering a unique fighting style or Quirk once, she can analyze it to find its strengths and weaknesses. Raika uses this against the Hanaka High Students during the Provisional Hero License Exam, who she knew would strategize through trying to sweet-talk, deception, and bombarding to lure her into traps. Through a thrilling match, Raika was able to use their own power against them that led to their defeat.

Miscellaneous Abilities

• Ki Sense: Raika learned the ability of Ki sensing from her mother as a child, an ability that gives her a higher awareness of the things around her, such as the location of a life force, predict attacks from opponents, and accurately tell the emotions of others based on their body language, eyes movements, and they breathing patterns. This ability is first displayed during the incidents at U.S.J. where she predicted and dodged an incoming surprise attack. Following Raika's internship with her parents at Hosu City, Raika learns further about ki sensing, gaining higher perception, making her able to perceive the world at a faster pace as if it was in slow motion. This is shown during their fight against Stain where she created a barrier of fire making it appear they were fleeing the scene, but as Stains rushes to them; Raika rids of fire with everyone ready to attack.
• Medical Expertise: Hoping to be able to help more besides fighting villains, Raika has taken part in many medical classes. Raika has showed well understanding of first aid and beyond until medical professionals arrive.
• Musical Talent: Raika has shown talent of playing the electric guitar as seen during her long shredding battle against Denki at the U.A. School Festival.

Quirk

Electric Flames (電気(でんき)炎(えん), Denki-en^?): Raika's Quirk allows her to generate and manipulate electricity and scarlet flames at will. The farther she emits the elements, the less control she has over it, making it best for short to medium range combat. Raika can mold her electricity and flames into anything such as weapons like bows & arrows, a whip, and swords. She must alternate between both of the elements or else she risks heat stroke, electrical and fire burns, and reaching her electricity limit. Which can leave her ditzy for a short period of time, but with overall great perception and control over herself.

• Crimson Scorching Wall (深紅(しんく)の炎天(えんてん)の壁(かべ), Shinku no Enten no Kabe^?) - Raika creates an extensive flame barrier, that can either block her from opponents or capture them. This is first used in her battle against Ibara Shiozaki during the U.A. Sports Festival, and is dubbed by Ochaco Uraraka. She apologizes to Ibara saying it was much larger then she wanted it to be, but was repulsed (from talking to her parents and Endeavor). A variation of this move that is smaller, and noticeably more controlled is used in Tenya, Izuku, Shoto, and her fight against the Hero Killer: Stain. She also uses this at an even larger scale during the Final Exams.
  • Twin Scorching Wall (二(に)重(じゅう)の灼熱(しゃくねつ)の壁(かべ), Nijū no Shakunetsu no Kabe^?) - A combination move with Shoto Todoroki, Raika and Shoto combine their flames to create an even more powerful wall capable of burning down numerous buildings.
• Burning Shot (バーニングショット, Bāningu Shotto^?) - Raika creates a bow with her flames and raises the temperature as high as possible to shoot an accurate blazing arrow, best used as a surprise attack amidst an already ongoing battle.
• Illusory Shadows, Visual Dream (幻影(げんえい)視覚(しかく)的(てき)夢(ゆめ), Gen'ei Shikakuteki Yume^?) - Raika generates figures of electricity and flames that frolic and generate bright light that hinders the vision of those looking at them. This was used against Fumikage Tokoyami's out of control Dark Shadow at the Forest Training Camp.
• Scarlet Flame Impact (緋色(ひいろ)の炎(ほのお)の影響(えいきょう), Hiiro no Honō no Eikyō^?) - Raika focuses and raises the temperature of her flames in her first or legs to release either a burning punch or kick.
• Shocking Flowers (衝撃(しょうげき)的(てき)な花(はな), Shōgeki-teki na Hana^?) - Raika creates flowers with her electricity, letting them flow free to the ground, then shocking anyone in a remote area to them. They can also be held and are harmless to those Raika gives them to use in battle.

Equipment

Hero Costume: Raika's hero outfit allows her to move quickly and effortlessly, making it easy for her to generate electricity or flames from any part of her body. The costume has been further upgraded to include better regulation of her body temperature and additional equipment.

• Fireproof Fabric: Raika's hero costume is made of two different types of fiber for her kimono and socks that have been modified to be fire proof. The fabric features a device at Raika's neck and behind her knees that detects her body temperature to cool her. According to Mei Hatsume, the fibers can withstand temperatures up to 4,000 °F (2,204 °C).
• Traction/Fireproof Geta: Raika is outfitted with a pair of woodblock geta sandals with spikes underneath the ha (the wood supporting the sandal) to prevent slipping on any surface, but particularly ice. The geta were also created with a modified wood that resists combustion from fire, allowing Raika to generate fire from her feet.
• First Aid Sash: Raika stores all necessary first aid items packed tightly in her sash, along with water, medications, disinfectants, and antidotes (some of which were made by her). When the sash bow is untied, the items are revealed.

Communication Device: Raika wears a lightning bolt hair clip on her ponytail which allows her to channel her electricity and create signals. It allows her to communicate with other channels remotely to make phone calls, create and sent voice/text messages. Many other uses include, telling date, time, showing location/directions, among other things. However, signals can also be blocked out by outside electrical disturbance. In her updated hero costume, it is a ring rather than a hair clip.

Visor Glasses: Raika wears dark purple visor glasses that allow her to track the location of her trackers, and watch the live or past footage taken by them along with audio. The glasses can site people of who look similar in the video like villains and can display their history as criminals.

• Lightning Bolt Trackers/Pointers: Lightning bolt trackers Raika stores on the back of her sash, allow her to track the location of her opponents and capture footage and audio from them. They are also metal pointers, that allow her to control where her electricity goes at longer distances that are harder to control.

Rivière d'éclairs: A extending whip created by Mei Hatsume with Raika, her electricity acts as a solid, allowing Raika to grab onto solid objects as well as to perform a various array of attacks.

• Her name Raika simply explains her quirk meaning "Lightning" (雷(らい), Rai^?) and "Fire" (火(か), Ka^?), her birth surname Hinojima means "Sun, Day" (日(ひ), Hi^?), "Field, Wilderness" (野(の), No^?), and "Island" (島(じま), Jima^?).
  • Following her adoption by her aunt and uncle, her surname became Kaminari meaning "above, hair" (上(かみ), Kami^?) and "sound, to ring" (鳴(なり), Nari^?). Raika's new surname is pronounced the same way as the Japanese word for "Lightning" (雷(かみなり), Kaminari^?).
• Raika's hair color is natural.
• She was born on the day of the year with the most thunderstorms.
