Saya grew up in the same neighborhood, near Shizuoka Prefecture, as Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo, along with Katsuki’s cousin Misaki Bakugo, whom Saya was all fond of back then. Saya adored All Might along with Izuku and Katsuki, and wished to be a hero that protects people and save her allies. Sometime later when they were four, Katsuki and Saya started to have small crushes on each other.

Things started to change afterwards, when Katsuki developed his Quirk. Saya didn’t like how Katsuki kept thinking he was more superior and would sometimes confront him about it, although she still liked him and looked up to him. After Izuku was revealed to be Quirkless, Saya felt bad and hung out with him more to make him feel better. They were close after that, although sometimes Katsuki wouldn’t allow it. Due to Misaki’s move back to her old town, Saya had no choice but to confront Katsuki’s bullying judgement against Izuku. Saya would protect Izuku when the latter gets taunted by the blonde, but will only get pushed from Katsuki, and can’t defend Izuku as she didn’t develope a Quirk yet.

Saya was taken to a doctor to see if she will ever develop a Quirk, only to be told that she will never get one. Saya broke down that day. Saya felt a strong determination and decided to never give up her dream of becoming a hero, while also doing this for Izuku, who had no chance to be one as well, not knowing Izuku strives to be a hero even if he’s Quirkless.

When Saya was six, her parents Naomi and Susumu Kiku decided to move, knowing Katsuki was bullying the two Quirkless children, and the Kiku family head off to Hosu City, much to Saya’s disapprovement. Having no choice, she said goodbye to Izuku through the phone. Saya thought about telling Katsuki as well, but due to his new aggressive and superior attitude, decided against it.

During the next years at Hosu City, Saya would tell people that she wants to be a hero someday, but since her classmates knew she was Quirkless, she was told multiple times she will never become one without a Quirk. Despite being looked down on, Saya never gave up and tried to ignore her classmates’s protests, but felt pressured at the time, being told multiple times that she can’t be a hero. One night, when she was ten, she overheard her parents discussing their daughter’s “unstoppable determination” and wanted to take her somewhere so she can “stop dreaming so much”. Shocked at this revelation, Saya packed up her stuff and her parent’s money and ran away from her home.

Sometime later, Saya would use the money she stole and buy a house she would later call the Kiku Household and designed her weapons and costume, thus beginning her era as an underground hero with no license.
