She had never been so brave before, the classmate was in awe. The boy was taken back by her strong stone. But, he wasn’t convinced she could take him on. A small argument arose, then suddenly the boy had enough. Picking Tanaka up by the neck, all she could hear was a shriek of horror by the classmate, and suddenly, she was thrown off the roof of the school. Was this... it? Was this the end? She thought about whether she had any regrets, anything she needed to do yet. Her only regret was that her father didn’t love her, but she considered that she had a good run.

Tanaka Hana is an original character from the series Boku no Hero Academia. She is the 24th student in Yuuei, taking in place in an Original Character Plot twist where the year Midoriya Izuku and the rest of class 1-A competed to enter their class, their class alongside the rest of the first year classes were making room for four extra students. Tanaka has a floral defense quirk called Multiflora, and doesn’t use her quirk at all until the Camp Training Arc. During the sports festival, she was beaten by Uraraka Ochako, earning her fifth place without using her quirk once (except behind the scenes when she is alone). Her flowers from her head start to grow and become visible shortly after the arc. Tanaka is childhood best friends with Bakugo Katsuki and Midoriya Izuku, so reuniting with them is by total chance.

Appearance

Tanaka has long, snow-white hair that grows past her hips. She wears the left side of her hair tucked into a yellow bow. Her bangs grow past her right cheek, making her right eye concealed. She has an hourglass body figure, but almost never shows it. The only time it’s ever taken notice to is when she is in her hero costume, or when she wears a cheerleaders uniform when tricked into wearing one. Tanaka is a cute girl with a cute fashion sense. Though she marries the idea of cute and comfortable into a single style in her casual clothing. Her hero costume is a pink body suit that ends at the start of her legs, the neck piece is baggy to keep her neck not revealed. She wears long- pale dark pink gloves that have opening at the palms and fingers. She wears a utility belt weaponized with support items, and knife holsters on her thighs. For feet wear, she wears pink thigh-highs and more of a saturated pink boots with thicker heels.

Personality

Tanaka is an all around sweet and bubbly girl with an outgoing personality. She loves almost everyone and everything, and supports all her friends and classmates! Strangely, she connects most with reserved or moody people, or anyone that is shy. She is typically turned off by egotistical stuck-up jerks, but Bakugo’s egotistical personality has always been a true exception, since she met the kind Bakugo first. Tanaka does have her moments where she loses energy and can start to either get tired and whiny, or depressed and constantly self-depreciate. She makes habit of complimenting others, giggling when she’s nervous, or just apologizing at times when she can feel when things are her fault. Her hobbies consist of creative writing, doodling, and singing. She likes colder weather, Teriyaki Chicken, Animals, Nature, and writing. She dislikes hot weather, arrogance, crowded areas, and bugs. She fears of isolation, and has nyctophobia.

Quirk

Her quirk is Multiflora, a mutant type. This quirk is a genetic condition that causes flowers to grow when the body ever has less than average health. Any wound, sickness, chemical imbalance will quickly heal due to the growth of a White Sakura flower. This quirk can be painful to use in manifestation years, but once used to it, can give the individual a better pain tolerance and quick regeneration. While the individual with multiflora can grow large vines that can pick up people and things, it is difficult to use offensively, due to the vines growing weak and brittle quite easily after used a couple of times (and regrowing can gradually become more painful for the user). Still, this quirk can be used as a great defense and allows the individual to have more stamina in a fight. In Tanaka’s case, she trained herself to not rely on her quirk (hating her quirk due to personal reasons) and is quite strong/agile already. This makes her a more than worthy opponent. She unfortunately can use her heart in a fight rather than her head, so can easily be persuaded.

Relationships

Tanaka Elise (Mother)- Elise is an average American woman, she worked hard to provide for her family as a teenager and often had the Healing Rose Quirk on her side when she had to push herself. She never did anything with her abilities for heroism, and never told anyone about them until she met Hirako who had saved her from being harmed at a bank robbery. She clung by his side after that, married him, and even convinced him to have a child with her. She passed right after conceiving her first child, unfortunately.

Tanaka Hirako (Father)- Hirako had an egotistical attitude and a selfish personality, even using his brother to his own benefit. He strives to be a hero to become more loved and famous, so he convinced his parents to help him and his brother go to Yuuei. In his second year of Yuuei, he was kicked out for harassing one of the students, Aizawa Shouta. The year following, he and his brother moved to America to become heroes there. That’s when he met his wife, Elise. She gave him so much love and attention after he saved her life, he decided to marry her. Hirako was livid when his precious wife died to the hands of a child only SHE wanted. Hirako ignored his child at first, then falling in love with her once she grew into her clingy phase. It broke his heart how much Hana was like Elise, it made him hate her. He one day abandoned his daughter, and never returned home.

Tanaka Sanji (Uncle)- He’s a kind, gentle soul that only ever worked his ass off for his big brother. He drew the line after his brother became abuse towards his niece, his world revolving around protecting her. He can be a bit submissive, but his work life is very different, making him dominant and order others without a second thought to them. Sanji was born to appease his big brother, always willing to stick by his side and support him. When Hirako wanted to go to Yuuei, Sanji trained until he couldn’t anymore just to go with his brother. Sanji ended up loving the school and adoring the thought of becoming a hero. He even made great friends with Aizawa Shouta, but his brother was jealous of that. Once his brother was kicked from UA and wanted to move to America, Sanji felt he had to follow him. His classmates tried to convince him to stay, but his brother came first. He fell in love with a woman his brother rescued, and they became very close. But once she married her brother, he allowed him to make her happy. It broke Sanji’s heart that the love of his life died, but the angel she left behind meant the world to him. To see his brother harm such an angel, made Sanji wonder why he always followed him.

Ivy (pet)- This cat always manages to get herself into trouble when away from Tanaka, but she is loving to her ‘mother’ and only cares about her. Once used to others, she can let them pet her. But ivy only wants Tanaka’s love and attention. Ivy was born in the alleyway next to the Tanaka apartment. Her mother was killed by some angsty teens. Tanaka was only Twelve at the time, and swooped down the side of the apartment to save as many kittens as she could from the teens. The teens though, pushed the girl into some trash cans. Her uncle was getting home at that time, and didn’t appreciate seeing his little girl harmed by some teenage brats. He used his vine quirk to pick them up and threaten them to never come back to this corner, or he’d tell the authorities what they did. They quickly escaped afterward. Tanaka found one kitten who survived the tragedy, a black kitten with heterochromatic eyes, one hazel the other blue. She named this kitten Ivy, and begged her uncle if she could keep her. Her uncle happily obliged, and the two have been inseparable since. Ivy currently lives with Tanaka in her dorm, and explores the outside world by leaving through the balcony doors. She always comes back to gain affection or just nap.

Aizawa Shota- One of her closest father figures (aside her uncle) and best mentors. Aizawa never was a people person, but when he had seen that look of desperation and fear in her big, soft pink eyes, he knew he had to do something. He bonded really well with Tanaka, telling her stories about his work of heroism, the people he guess he could consider ‘friends’ but always stuck to say ‘peers’ or ‘coworkers’. He saw Tanaka as a daughter at that point, wanting to do whatever he could to protect her smile. So when they grew apart... Aizawa did it on purpose in a way, he saw a friend die before. To think that could’ve happened to Sanji, or even his niece... Nonetheless, Aizawa is a tad harder on Tanaka in training, seeing her potential out longer than the others. He would even have her stay after class some days to sit and study with him. He does it all because he loves the kid. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. Except for go on a date with Miss Joke.

Todoroki Shoto- Debatably one of the most attractive first years in Yuuei, Todoroki Shoto was a young boy with a half cold- half hot complexion. Literally. He never had any friends before Yuuei, to which his older sister was always suggesting students to him that she’d meet in her classes. That was when she met Tanaka, a sweet girl who always took time out of her day to help Fuyumi after class hours. She offered Todoroki to come to her school after exams and thank her, while introducing himself. She hoped this could be a step towards making a real friend. While it didn’t go as planned, Tanaka being on the school roof and being thrown off while Shoto was there in the nick of time to save her, in a way Fuyumi’s plan did work. Tanaka the next week had gotten enrolled into Yuuei, and after the Sports festival, became great friends with Todoroki Shoto. Though, he can’t help but to feel something more every time he sees her more often. Could It be she feels that too?

Bakugo Katsuki- Her childhood best friend. He has an explosive personality and a arrogant attitude, but Tanaka has never failed to see what Bakugo was on the inside. Yes, it was his nature to be kind of rude and standoffish, but in reality she could hear the sincerity in his voice. She knew she did! Bakugo strived to be the best, but he never really would kill anyone in his way either. If he never cared, he would’ve never given her a chance right? They have a lot of bumps and arguments when reuniting, but in the end, these two care for each other just as siblings would.

Shimizu, Namika, and Maki ( http://aminoapps.com/p/wo10mz )- These three girls are Tanaka’s closest group in Yuuei. They each have their own distinctive personality that makes them so easy to adore. They can be a pretty crazy group on their own being young, wild girls, but they still have each others backs. Tanaka loves her A Gang to the moon and back, and the rest of them even consider her like the Gang’s first in charge. Tanaka on the other hand, considers the group a big team effort.

Backstory

Tanaka Hana was born in the United States on a cool, fall afternoon. It was a true bittersweet day, because not only was she born, but her life was exchanged for the sudden death of her mother. Tanaka Hirako was a devastated wreck losing his wife so suddenly. Meanwhile her uncle, Tanaka Sanji treasured the gift of life his sister-in-law gave.

In America, Hirako was feeling low and alone. He was a completely broken man who didn’t know how to cope with having a daughter while being a widowed husband. This did leave Sanji to mostly care for Hana in his place. Hirako would often return home drunk and angry on nights, yelling at his daughter and claiming her a murderer. One evening, at Hana being the age of three, her quirk first manifested when her father came home so wasted he angrily threw his bottle of beer straight at his daughter’s face. Sanji was outraged, telling Hirako to stay at a motel. Of course, while Hirako held a grudge against Hana, he never wanted to hurt her. He was devastated, and wish he was man enough to apologize. Meanwhile, while Sanji desperately tried to aid his niece, he saw suddenly White Sakura flowers blossom from her wounds. He was stunned, realizing her quirk manifested a bit early. Still, he was so proud! He took her to the doctor that following morning to learn his brother’s and sister-in-law’s quirks fused to make her own, The Multiflora.

When Hana was Six years old, her uncle left for the week to attend a business trip in Japan. Hirako was left to care for Hana. But, he completely left with all his things. While walking out the door, his daughter begged and pleaded with tears running down her face that he stay, and she could change and be better. He left her without a word. Hana was left alone at home by herself for three days with no food. Sanji was outraged once again, and heartbroken at the terrible treatment of his niece. He decided on her Seventh birthday, they will move back to Japan.

When Hana turned seven and began to live in Japan with her uncle, she attended a primary school with peers that were strangers. She was picked on for her scars and her pink eyes. She had her hair pulled and was bullied for being different, for hardly knowing any Japanese. She couldn’t make them stop, she was weak and didn’t know how to yell for help. Eventually, a boy with ash-blonde hair had defended her, though she didn’t know what he exactly said to make the kids stop. After that, Hana never left the boy alone. Agitated, he realized he was stuck with the puny silver haired girl. He helped her learn Japanese, taught her cuss words that he overheard, made her do silly things that she thought was fun and he thought was funny to watch... They became best friends, and she happily took on the title in school as “Katsuki’s sidekick”.

Two years later, something tragic happened. Hana was at the age of six and woke up on a school morning, to realize her uncle never woke her up. She walked into his room, “Uncle?” No response. He wasn’t there. Searching the apartment, she found a ransom note saying her uncle was kidnapped. Her heart stopped. She walked herself to school that day not acting herself at all. Katsuki kept asking her what her deal was, but she smiled and proceeded to act like it was nothing. At the end of the day, she told him that she couldn’t go to school anymore or spend time with him. Devastated, he begged her for a reason. All she replied with was, “Katsuki and Hana, we are best friends forever!”

The girl went home and cried, searching the phone book at home for the police number while watching the news. It suddenly came on TV, a hero on screen by the name of EraserHead had saved the day. This man... Why did he look familiar? Grabbing her backpack, she wrote down quickly the name of the area he was in, and sprinted to find the hero and beg him to help her. That’s what hero’s do, right? Save people when they need to be saved? Hana need saving, right now! The small girl arrived out of breath to the tattered scene of Eraser Head saving the city. She grabbed his sleeve with all her might, and with her tear soaked face she cried for his help.

“Woah, hang on there kid. You need to slow down. Help with what? What happened to your Uncle?” Poor EraserHead was never good with kids, so he didn’t really have the soft-spoken voice to ease her. All she did at that point was shove the ransom note in his hands. His eyes were wide. “Tanaka? Tanaka Sanji?... I had no idea he would grow up to have a niece. I— Alright, alright. I’ll help you. Take me to your house, okay?”

From that day forward, Aizawa Shota trained Hana to get used to her quirk while maintaining to investigate the whereabouts of Sanji. It was a few months in until he found the warehouse he was still being held hostage in. Hana pleaded to join in the rescue of her Uncle, but Aizawa strictly enforced her to stay home. Did the girl listen? Of course not, she’s a Tanaka. The silver haired girl followed the pro heroes to the warehouse. Fending off villains that found her sneaking around, Aizawa was extremely impressed. It was a tough fight, but Tanaka Sanji was saved. After a few days of reconnecting with Aizawa, he encouraged Sanji to consider enrolling Hana into Yuuei when she finishes middle school. He even offered to get a good word in with some of his peers. Sanji was very uncomfortable with that thought, his niece becoming a hero.

Hana heavily considered her future on her last few days of middle school, was she really meant to be a hero? It didn’t help that was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and a learning disorder all in that year as well. Her uncle enrolled her into a normal high school, where she was taught that first week by Todoroki Fuyumi. Tanaka struggled a lot with herself her first week of high school. Was she meant to be a hero, or just somebody else? On a bleak Friday, she sat on the edge of her school rooftop, dangling her bare feet in the air. Suddenly, she heard a shriek.

Quickly getting up to approach the issue, she was crashed into by a classmate of her, her eyes filled with panic. “Tanaka, thank god it’s you! You’re strong! You need to help me!” The classmate panicked “Wait, what? What do you mean? What’s wrong?!” She asked, holding the trembling girl in her arms. And that was when a tall, bulky man approached the two. His eyes spoke trouble. An angry ex, perhaps? He ordered Tanaka to leave. She froze, looking at her classmate now tearing up from fear, then back to the pissed off boy in front of them.

Tanaka suddenly knew what to do, taking a step in front of her classmate. Using her sternest tone, she looked coldly to the boy. “I’m not going anywhere. In fact, I think YOU should go”. She had never been so brave before, the classmate was in awe. The boy was taken back by her strong stone. But, he wasn’t convinced she could take him on. A small argument rose, then suddenly the boy had enough.

But it wasn’t over, it was only the beginning.

The felt a sensation of ice catch her fall, and slide her safely to the ground. It was unbelievable. Again, here she was being saved when she needed someone the most. Her story made headlines over the span of the day. But that didn’t matter to her at all, what she got out of her saving experience was much more an epiphany she needed. That Saturday, she told her Uncle she’s going to try to get into Yuuei. He was completely against it, doing what he could to change her mind. But Hana was set on her decision. “Hana, I love you, Angel. But I swear to Ultra if you get into Yuuei, then you better get a dorm, because I won’t allow this here!” “Then, I’ll be sure to ask for one. See you, Uncle!”

That Sunday was her appointment to speak with the headmaster. She entered his office and begged for a chance to enter Yuuei’s main course. He appreciated her efforts, but she should’ve came to the entrance exams if she wanted to attend so badly. But then, one of the teachers piped up.

”You know, we are missing one student for 1-A and 1-C.” ”...What are you saying, Aizawa?”

Aizawa explained that another girl came yesterday trying to get in as well. They could hold a giant exam for the two girls and whoever won could go into the 1A course. Principal Nezu was surprised of his idea, and loved it! On Monday, Hana would go against another girl for the open seat in the main hero course.

Monday rolled around fast, and Tanaka was introduced to her opponent, Koharu Amari. This girl had a telekinesis quirk, but barely had control over it. The exam was brutal, but Tanaka had won without even using her quirk. It was an impressive victory, and even Koharu had congratulated her.

Even now, Tanaka is very appreciative for the opportunity Aizawa and her mystery hero have given her. Tanaka fights hard for what she believes in, and desires to become a hero that is there when people need her the most. Whether that makes her number one, or number one-hundred! Tanaka Hana is our Cherry Bomb!
