"What, you're takin' some moral stance against us?" The tone was veering into the territory of mocking. "You think it's righteous or whatever to pull this shit? You think it makes you a hero? God damn, you were there with me when that happened, weren't you? At Kiyashi. We saw what Endeavour did. You wanna be like him, you wanna just be another bullshit hero?" There followed a brief pause. "I don't care what you do, but don't try and lecture us on what we're doing when you've seen the truth behind your precious heroes.""

Tenko Shimura's thesis to Kobayashi, Chapter 17

The Villainy Club is a fanfiction written by BokuNoWriterAcademia set in an alternate universe from the mainline Boku No Hero Academia manga series. It follows aged-down (or aged up in the case of Touta Kobayashi) members of the infamous League of Villains, attending a UA program funded by the Shigaraki Corporation called the Special Needs and Education Program, for young men and women with dangerous Quirks or criminal histories that would typically prevent them from involving themselves in UA.

It largely follows Tenko Shimura, one such applicant in the program, who comes to learn just how rotten to its core the world of heroics is, and his gradual descent into becoming a psychotic madman, alongside other noteworthy characters from the main line series, such as Himiko Toga, Jin Bubaigawara and Atsuhiro Sako.

Characters[]

Tenko Shimura - The main protagonist of the series, Tenko serves as an alternate universe take on Tomura Shigaraki, the main antagonist of BNHA. Tenko is portrayed as an apathetic young man with a resentment for people, only begrudgingly starting friendships with Himiko Toga and Touta Kobayashi because the former forced him into it. His apathy, however, has been shown to break as shown when Chisaki killed one of Bubaigawara's Doubles and threatened to expose the Club, revealing just how much he seems to care for it. His backstory seems so far to be much the same as it is in canon, but after The Incident, he is sent to Otinoshi's Orphanage, where he is soon after met by Hakai Shigaraki. For a period of time, he kept the servered hand of Kotaro in his desk, but as of Chapter 28, he has started wearing it as part of his villain costume. His codename while with the Villainy Club is Tomura.

Himiko Toga - The current deuotagonist of the series, Toga is portrayed as a bouncy, energetic young girl, obsessed with sweets and living however she desires. As shown in both chapters Eleven and Fifteen she clearly has some form of issue with controlling her anger, and it can manifest in violent ways. Also implied to have a connection to Jin Bubaigawara, a detail her friends have picked up on. Her codename while with the Club is Blood Baby.

Touta Kobayashi - This universe's version of the minor villain Mustard, Touta is a consciencous young man, brought up by a police officer. This has instilled in him a notable sense of justice, as he is currently striving to find the truth behind the Villainy Club so that he can report the group to the proper authorities. Furthermore, he also shows genuine care for hie friends, offering his seat on the 1A bus to Toga. Notably, his role in the series is far bigger than his canon counterpart, being one of the friendship trio between himself, Shimura and Toga, as well as being the main antagonist of the Bank Heist arc, since then he has officially joined up to the Club. He is referred to as Mustard in the series, initially a pet name given to him by Toga. He's known to be at least somewhat interested in classic TV and cinema, expressing interest in the films The Godfather and The Terminator Franchise, as well as the classic British series Doctor Who.

Atsuhiro Sako - The only remaiming member of the original Villainy Club after an undisclosed imcident, Sako is a third year and the only current club member to not be part of Class S, instead residing in 3-A. An intelligent and driven young gentleman with a passion for flair and showmanship, every part of Atsuhiro's personality is loud and flashy. He serves as a mentor figure of sorts to Tenko, and is even shown to have a moral core, chastising Toga for nearly killing Yen Yamada in Chapter Fifteen. He has a fierce loyalty to The Doctor. His codename with the Club is Mr. Compress. After Chisaki's attack, he took on full responsibility, having the others promise to lay low for the next while, although they disobeyed this. Ultimately, hpwever, it was revealed that he knew of the choice to go behind his back, where he expressed legitimate anger for them threatening the wellbeing of the Club. It has also been stated by the author that Sako will be the only character to have a radically different backstory from canon, as they allegedly created the backstory before the official reveal in the manga. For this same reason, Sako's appearance is also different, with neat black hair instead of it being curly and red.

Jin Bubaigawara - An ecentric young man in Class 2-S, Jin is shown right off the bat to be an oddball, frequently described by Shimura's inner monologue as being a weirdo, even by their standards. He appears to have a handle on being the original Jin and not just a copy, unlike his canon counterpart, although he retains his split personality ticks. He's referred to by classmates as Twice, and this is likely his codename as well.

Kai Chisaki - Seemingly one of the main antagonists of the series as a whole, Kai is a young, quiet and thoughtful student, raised by the Shie Hassaikai Yakuza Clan. He seems to spend most of his time behind the scenes, plotting his scheme to restore the Hassaikai to being kings of the underworld by creating a Quirk-erasing formula to cripple society, all while making the Yakuza the top dogs again. As of now, he is partnered with Kuin Hachisuka and the Villains Factory, although he intends on going against their wishes to fulfill his own ideals. He believes both himself and anyone who follows him to be traitors to the Hassaikai, and has shown a cruel streak, poisoning the Boss so that the elederly man would be unable to intervene. He is portrayed to have a lack of respect for both his Bullets and himself, announcing himself to be as filthy as anyone else during the final confrontation. His (presumably) final appearance is in Chapter 29 - Overhaul where he is ultimately defeated after a battle with the Club and is killed by Shimura, watching his Quirk-erasing drug be destroyed by Decay. He later appeared to Shimura during a nightmare and his disembodied hands also belong to Tenko now.

Kuin Hachisuka - Currently under the guise of Wakari, Kuin is another antagonist, who formerly collaborated with Chisaki on their joint plan to wor, her way into the Villainy Club. She is a known The Villain Factory agent, acting on their behalf in order to infiltrate the Club and gain leverage on All for One. Part of the plan involved becoming a triple agent, pretending to have betrayed her superiors while still working for the Villains Factory. She escaped the battle in Chapter 29 and ditched Uraraka's body. She has since taken over Wakari's body and is now a full-time member of the Villainy Club, although her true intentions remain murky.

Hakai Shigaraki [All for One] - The much-elusive Kingpin of crime in Japan, Hakai is a businessman by day, running the Shigaraki Corporation, and carrying out crimes by night. He is said to be at least a century old, and the age appears to be getting to him, as he has a near obsession with finding a suitable heir in the event that he will soon either die of old age or will be too mentally frail to carry on his empire. The Villainy Club and the Special Needs Program were created by him, to breed new villains into the world; It is unknown if he intended Tenko to join up, but this is likely, although there has been no confirmation that the test was potentially rigged to give Shimura a leg up.

The Doctor - Going by the name of Daruma Ujiko when in UA, the Doctor is a biology teacher, head of extracurriculars and Occult Club supervisor at UA. He's claimed to have worked in surgery before, possibly alongside Kotaro Shimura at some point in time, as the patriarch of the Shimura household has been stated to be a Surgeon in this universe. He serves as All for One's main eyes in the school, keeping watch over the goings on at UA and reporting them back to his mentor. In initial chapters, he was portrayed as cold and harsh, but has since taken on a more cheerful, grandfatherly persona. It's unknown if this is an intentional personality quirk, or the author simply changed their mind on Ujiko's demeanour.

Minor Characters[]

  • Kousaku Kido - Described as being a NEET, Kido, otherwise known as the Goop Villain, is a minor antagonist, making only one appearance, in Chapter Nine, as well as a few brief references in other chapters. He's portrayed as rather patheitc and weak-willed, killing two people once he u locks his true power just because he can. After being stopped by Endeavour, he surrenders, only to be burnt to death by the pro hero. He was likely either a henchman for the Villain Factory or someone they picked up off the street.
  • Touya Todoroki - Not much is currently known about this incarnation of the character, other than him being in Class 2A and a member of the Student Council. It's currently unknown if he'll become Dabi, although Ujiko did note him as being a potential candidate. He clearly has issues with his father and holds ill will towards him for an incident involving his brother Shoto and his mother Rei.
  • Enji Todoroki - The Pro Hero Endeavour, Enji seems to be far crueler than his canon counterpart, murdering Kido after he surrendered and begged to be taken in queitly. So far, he's only appeared in Chapter Nine, but his actions have had a knock-on effect, especially for Kobayashi, who had his beliefs shaken upon witnessing the execution.
  • Lucy Alexander - The British owner of Otinoshi's Orphanage, she's referenced quite a few times, but has never appeared, unless she's the unnamed Matron who appeared in Chapter Three. She owns a cat named Lucy.
  • Izuku Midoriya - A timid young hero-in-training, Midoriya is stated to, much like his canon counterpart, be a wielder of One for All. He has a semi-friendly relationship with Tenko Shimura, with the two often relying on one another for training.
  • Kotaro Shimura (mentioned) - Presumably much the same as his canon counterpart, Kotaro was a surgeon who was abusive towards his family and in particular, Tenko. His severed hand now sits in his son's drawer.
  • Hana Shimura (mentioned) - Tenko Shimura's sister, all that's currently known of her is that she's dead and he presumably cared a lot about her, as a vision of her is the only thing that stops him from killing Toga in Chapter Eleven.
  • Hana Yakunita - A young resident at Otinoshi's, she's protrayed as a bubbly girl with a love for her pseudo-older brother Tenko. Her Quirk, Future Tense, allows her to make accidental predictions without she herself even realizing it. Because of this, there's a possibility she may end up being possessed by Kuin Hachisuka at some point down the line, as she made a reference to not liking bees.
  • Rory the Nomu (mentioned) - Only mentioned in one chapter, Rory is a Nomu who could seemingly act as All for One's vessel, giving a body and face to the legend while Hakai Shigaraki could stay safe. Rory is the one who wounded All Might in this universe.
  • Ochaco Uraraka (Formerly possessed by Hachisuka; Currently not seen when in control of her body) - No information known about her personality at all, Uraraka is a student in Class 1A who showed up on the first day without an eye and with a hesitancy to use her Quirk. This is noted as unusual behaviour by Aizawa. After Hachisuka moves onto a new hodt, Uraraka's fate is unknown, although if thr Villain Factor executive is to be believed, she was returned home safely.
  • Oboro Shirakumo - Teacher of Class 1-S, Shirakumo is shown to be an optimistic figure, albeit one who is constantly abused and neglected by all around him from his students to coworkers, in spite of his diligence and belief in the Special Needs and Education Program.
  • Kazama Matsuda - A weak-willed bank worker, he was impersonated by Tenko Shimura during the bank heist arc. Was later revealed to be embezzling funds and was offered the police's silence in exchange for termination from his job and a complete blacklist from the industry. His fate is unknown after being released from Compression.
  • Yen Yamada - A security guard at Sakura Bank, Yamada served as a major antagonist in the Bank Heist Arc, fighting against Toga and Sako. He was eventually overpowered and Toga drank his blood, transforming into him. His fate is unknown.
  • Daisuke Kobayashi - Touta Kobayashi's father and a police inspector, Daisuke is shown as a good man, who instilled a strong sense of justice as well as a knowledge of firearms and an unintentional hatred of false heroes, into his son.
  • Shuichi Iguchi - Referenced many times in the past, Iguschi was a member of the original Villainy Club, who rushed into action after a friend was nearly aprehended by police, leading to his expulsion and the near-collapse of the Club. After this, he disappeared, ultimately becoming the Lizard King as revealed in Chapter 24, a gang leader who took control of a network of dangerous side streets in Musutafu.
  • The Six Bullets - An interpretation of the main manga's Eight Bullets, the Six Bullets comsist of the same members as the original, aside from Nemoto and Rappa, who are absent. With the exception of Hekiji Tengai, who was last seen being dragged from the wreckage of the Hassaikai car by Twice and was assumedly arrested on the scene, the rest of thr Bullets were assassinated by Shin Nemoto as recompence for their betrayal.
  • Madoka - An original character, Madoka was a member of the Shie Hassaikai, fiercely loyal to the Boss, while also being a hothead, with an unremarkable intellect. After finding out Chisaki has been poisoning the Boss, he confronts Overhaul and has his Quirk erased by Eri, reducing him to a placid, wimpering state. In spite of this, his true admiration for the Boss shines through. He is defeated off-screen by Himiko Toga during the Shie Hassaikai Vs. Villainy Club Showdown and was later revealed to be arrested by the police, where he is currently facing a firearms possession charge.
  • Wakari - A young girl in Class 1S, with a hatred of rude people and a desire for all around her to be perfect ladies and gentlemen in spite of her own abrasive attitude. She's currently Kuin Hachisuka's new host.

Trivia[]

- The series has several references to the BNHA spinoff manga Vigilantes

 - Within UA, there is a Cruller Club, dedicated to picking up trash, a reference to the protagonist of Vigilantes
 - Kuin Hachisuka, a major antagonist, is also taken from the spinoff.

- Touta Kobayashi possibly serves as a combination of both the original Mustard and Stain from BNHA, as a lover of justice who slowly becomes more and more disenfranchised by the hero system.
